Surah Al-Kafirun: Today, we explore the profound wisdom of the 109th chapter of the Quran; Surah Al-Kafirun holds an important place in the Quran as it warns against idol worship and provides guidance on how to interact with those who do not believe in Allah.

Surah Kafirun

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm

English Translation: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ

Qul yā ayyuhāl-kāfirūn

Translation:Say: O disbelievers,

لَا أَعْبُدُ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Lā aʿbudu mā taʿbudūn

Translation:I do not worship what you worship.

وَلَا أَنتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ

Wa lā antum ʿābidūna mā aʿbud

Translation:Nor are you worshippers of what I worship.

وَلَا أَنَا عَابِدٌ مَّا عَبَدتُّمْ

Wa lā anā ʿābidun mā ʿabadtum

Translation:Nor will I be a worshipper of what you worship.

وَلَا أَنتُمْ عَابِدُونَ مَا أَعْبُدُ

Wa lā antum ʿābidūna mā aʿbud

Translation:Nor will you be worshippers of what I worship.

لَكُمْ دِينُكُمْ وَلِيَ دِينِ

Lakum dīnukum waliya dīn

Translation:For you is your religion, and for me is my religion.

According to a narration by Wahb ibn Munabbih, the people of Quraish said to Allah’s Messenger, Prophet Muhammad, “If you like, we would enter your faith for a year, and you would enter our faith for a year.” This account is mentioned in the works of Abd bin Humaid and Ibn Abi Hatim. The statement suggests that the people of Quraish proposed a mutual agreement with the Prophet Muhammad, wherein they would temporarily adopt Islam for a year, and he would likewise follow their beliefs for a year.
