The most powerful Dua for forgiveness
Seeking forgiveness from Allah is a simple act of turning to Allah and asking for Mercy. Forgiveness is a critical aspect of Islam for everybody. As in the hadith
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant when he turns penitently towards Him than one of you would be on finding the lost camel. (Sahih Muslim) forgiveness dua
And in the second Hadith
كُلُّ بَنِي آدَمَ خَطَّاءٌ، وَخَيْرُ الْخَطَّائِينَ التَّوَّابُونَ
“Kullu bani Adam khattaa’un • wa khayrul khattaa’een At-tawwaaboon•”

Dua for forgiveness 1
The Dua of Prophet Yunus A.S.
لَّا إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
“La ilaha illa anta subhanaka innee kuntu mina alththalimeena”
“There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.”
This is the dua Prophet Yunus (AS) made when he was stuck inside the belly of a whale. He felt hopeless and turned to Allah SWT in repentance, begging for His Mercy.
This Dua is composed of these three sentences
- 1 La ilaha illa anta
- 2 subhanaka
- 3 innee kuntu mina alththalimeena
The first two sentences praise Allah(SWT). The last part is the realization of our sins.
Dua for forgiveness 2
رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ
“Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa-in lam taghfir lana watarhamnalanakoonanna mina alkhasireen”
“Our Lord! we have sinned against ourselves, and unless You grant us forgiveness and bestow Your mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost.”
Dua for forgiveness 3
رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
- “Rabbana innana amanna faghfir lana dhunuubana wa qinna adhaban-Naar”
“Our Lord! We have indeed believed, so forgive us our sins and save us from the punishment of the Fire.”

رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي
- “Rabbi Inni Zalamtu Nafsi fagh-firli”
My Lord! Indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me.
Dua for forgiveness 5
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ
“Rabbi ighfir warhum wa anta khairur raahimeen”
My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and you are the best of the merciful.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي ظُلْماً كَثِيراً، وَلَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ، فَاغْفِرْ لِي مَغْفِرَةً مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَارْحَمْنِي إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
” ‘Alahumma inni zalamtu afsi zulman kathiran wa la yaghfirudhunub illa anta faghfirli maghfiratan min ‘indika warhamni innaka antalGhafurur-Rahim ”
O Allah, verily I have wronged myself much, and None forgives sins except You. Grant me forgiveness from You and have mercy on me, for You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي ذَنْبِي، وَوَسِّعْ لِي فِي دَارِي، وَبَارِكْ لِي فِي رِزْقِي
“Allahummagfirli zambi wa was-si’-li fi daa ri wa barik li fi rizqi “
O, Allah! Forgive my sins and widen my home, and grant barakah in my rizq

اللهم إني أسألك الهدى، والتقى، والعفاف، والغنى
“Allahumma inni as’alukal-huda wat- tuqa wal-‘afafa wal-ghina “
O Allah! I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity and self- sufficiency

أَسْـتَـغْـفِـرُ اللهَ وَ أَ تُـوبُ إِ لَـْيهِ
“Astaghfirullah wa atubu ilaih ”
“I seek forgiveness to Allah and repent towards Him.”
Things To Remember When Seeking Allah’s Forgiveness
As Human beings, we are not perfect. We make mistakes and commit sins; we need Allah’s forgiveness. Before asking Allah for forgiveness, remember some important things.
- First, stop doing the Sin.
- regret one’s past evil deeds
- Fear Allah wherever you are
- Ask Allah for forgiveness.
- And work on not repeating the behavior again
- Increase the power of your prayers.
- Make sure that you are dedicated to avoiding the behavior in the future before you ask for forgiveness.
- Suppose someone else is affected by your sins or mistakes. You also have to apologize to them.
SAYYIDUL ISTIGHFAR

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لّا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْت،خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْت،أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا صَنَعْت، أَبُوءُ لَكَ بِنِعْمَتِكَ عَلَيَّ، وَأَبُوءُ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِر لِي فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ
Allahumma anta rabbi laaa ilaaha illa anta.Khalaq tani wa aana a’bduk. Wa aana aa-la ahdika wa wa’di-ka masta-ta’tu. Aa u’zubika min-sharimaa sa-na’tu. Aa-bu u-laka bi-ni’matika a’laiya. Wa aa-bu u-bi-zambi Fagh-firli Fa-inna-hu la yagh-firuz-zu-nu ba il-la anta
