In Islam, seeking protection from harm from evil, shirk, the enemy, and keeping your family and children safe. It is an essential part of our daily prayers and supplications. We are taught to turn to Allah (SWT) for protection and safety from all kinds of harm, both seen and unseen. This protection can be pursued through various dua (supplications) prescribed in the Quran and Sunnah. Here are some of them.

Dua For Protection:1
One of the most commonly recited dua for protection is the Ayat al-Kursi, the 255th verse of Surah al-Baqarah in the Quran.
Allahu laaa ilaaha illaa huwal haiyul qai-yoom;
laa taakhuzuhoo sinatunw wa laa nawm;
lahoo maa fissamaawaati wa maa fil arz;
man zallazee yashfa’u ‘indahooo illaa be iznih;
ya’lamu maa baina aideehim wa maa khalfahum;
wa laa yuheetoona beshai immin ‘ilmihee illa bi maa shaaa’;
wasi’a kursiyyuhus samaa waati wal arz;
This dua is considered a powerful means of seeking protection from all kinds of harm. It is said that reciting Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer is a means of protection from Shaytan (Satan) until the following prayer.
Dua For Protection: 2
Another powerful dua for protection is the Mu’awwidhatayn, the last two Surahs of the Quran – Surah al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas.
Surah Al-Falaq
English Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak
From the evil of that which He created
And from the evil of darkness when it settles
And from the evil of the blowers in knots
And from the evil of an envier when he envies.”
Surah An-Nas
English Translation:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
The Sovereign of mankind,
The God of mankind,
From the evil of the retreating whisperer
Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind,
From among the jinn and mankind.”
These Surahs were explicitly revealed as a means of seeking protection from all kinds of evil, including black magic, jealousy, and the evil eye. Muslims are encouraged to recite these Surahs every morning and evening for protection.
In addition to this dua, many other supplications can be recited for protection. One of the most important things to remember when reciting these supplications is to do so with sincerity and a strong belief in Allah’s (SWT) power and protection. Making dua for protection for ourselves, our families, loved ones, and the Muslim ummah is also essential.
In the finale, dua for protection is essential to Islamic teachings. We can seek protection from all kinds of harm by reciting supplications such as Ayat al-Kursi and the Mu’awwidhatayn with sincerity and belief in Allah’s power and protection. However, it is also essential to take practical measures to protect ourselves from harm and make dua for the protection of others. May Allah (SWT) protect us from harm and guide us on righteousness. Ameen.
