Dua For Protection
In Islam, seeking protection from harm from evil, shirk, the enemy, and keeping your family and children safe. It is an essential part of our daily prayers and supplications. We are taught to turn to Allah (SWT) for protection and safety from all kinds of harm, both seen and unseen. This protection can be pursued through various dua (supplications) prescribed in the Quran and Sunnah. Here are some of them.
Dua for Protection Against Harm
اللهم إني أعوذ بك من شر كل دابة أنت آخذ بناصيتها
Roman: Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min sharri kulli da’abbatin anta akhidhun bi nasiyatiha Translation: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of every creature that You will seize by its forelock.
Dua for Protection from Evil
أعوذ بكلمات الله التامة من شر ما خلق
Roman: A’udhu bi kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
Translation: I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.

Dua for Protection from Diseases
بسم الله الذي لا يضر مع اسمه شيء في الأرض ولا في السماء وهو السميع العليم
Roman: Bismillahi alladhee la yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fil-ardi wala fis-sama’i wa huwas-samee’ul-‘aleem
Translation: In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing on earth or in the heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.
Dua for Protection from Hell
ربنا آتنا من لدنك رحمة وهيئ لنا من أمرنا رشدا
Roman: Rabbana a’atinna mil-ladunka rahmatan wahayyi’ lana min amrina rashada
Translation: Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance.
Dua for Protection from Calamities
حسبي الله لا إله إلا هو عليه توكلت وهو ربُّ العرش العظيم
Roman: Hasbiyallahu la ilaha illa huwa ‘alayhi tawakkaltu wa huwa Rabbul-‘Arshil-‘Adheem Translation: Allah is sufficient for me. There is no deity except Him. I have placed my trust in Him, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.
Dua for Protection from Enemies
اللهم إنا نجعلك في نحورهم ونعوذ بك من شرورهم
Roman: Allahumma inna naj’aluka fi nuhurihim wa na’udhu bika min shuroorihim
Translation: O Allah, we place you against them and we seek refuge in You from their evils.
Dua for Protection from Shirk
اللهم إني أعوذ بك أن أشرك بك شيئًا أعلمه وأستغفرك لما لا أعلمه
Roman: Allahumma inni a’udhu bika an ushrika bika shay’an a’lamuhu wa astaghfiruka lima la a’lamuhu
Translation: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating anything with You, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do unknowingly.
Dua for Protection of Family
اللهم أسألك خيرها وخير ما فيها وخير ما بعدها
Roman: Allahumma as’aluka khayraha wa khayra ma fiha wa khayra ma ba’daha
Translation: O Allah, I ask You for its goodness and the goodness within it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil within it.

- Surah Falaq
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim
Translation: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ
Qul a’udhu birabbi al-falaq
Translation: Say: “I seek refuge with (Allah), the Lord of the daybreak,
مِن شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
Min sharri ma khalaq
Translation: From the evil of what He has created,
وَمِن شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ إِذَا وَقَبَ
Wa min sharri ghasiqin idha waqab
Translation: And from the evil of the darkness when it settles,
وَمِن شَرِّ النَّفَّاثَاتِ فِي الْعُقَدِ
Wa min sharri an-naffathati fil-‘uqad
Translation: And from the evil of those who blow on knots,
وَمِن شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
Wa min sharri hasidin idha hasad
Translation: And from the evil of the envier when he envies.

Surah naas
- Read surah naas
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim
Translation: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ
Qul a’udhu birabbin-nas
Translation: Say: “I seek refuge with (Allah), the Lord of mankind,
مَلِكِ النَّاسِ
Malikin-nas Translation: The Sovereign of mankind,
إِلَٰهِ النَّاسِ
Ilahin-nas Translation: The God of mankind,
مِنْ شَرِّ الْوَسْوَاسِ الْخَنَّاسِ
Min sharril-waswasil-khannas
Translation: From the evil of the whisperer (devil who whispers evil in the hearts of men) who withdraws (from his whispering in one’s heart after one remembers Allah),
الَّذِي يُوَسْوِسُ فِي صُدُورِ النَّاسِ
Alladhi yuwaswisu fi sudoorin-nas
Translation: Who whispers in the breasts of mankind,
مِنَ الْجِنَّةِ وَالنَّاسِ
Minal-jinnati wan-nas
Translation: Of jinn and men.

2 Dua For Protection
One of the most commonly recited dua for protection is the Ayat al-Kursi, the 255th verse of Surah al-Baqarah in the Quran.
اللَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ
لاَ تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلاَ نَوْمٌ
لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ
مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِهِ
يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ
وَلاَ يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلاَّ بِمَا شَاءَ
وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاواتِ وَالأَرْضَ
وَلاَ يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
Allahu laaa ilaaha illaa huwal haiyul qai-yoom;
laa taakhuzuhoo sinatunw wa laa nawm;
lahoo maa fissamaawaati wa maa fil arz;
man zallazee yashfa’u ‘indahooo illaa be iznih;
ya’lamu maa baina aideehim wa maa khalfahum;
wa laa yuheetoona beshai immin ‘ilmihee illa bi maa shaaa’;
wasi’a kursiyyuhus samaa waati wal arz;
wa la ya’ooduho hifzuhumaa; wa huwal ‘aliyyul ‘azeem
This dua is considered a powerful means of seeking protection from all kinds of harm. It is said that reciting Ayat al-Kursi after every obligatory prayer is a means of protection from Shaytan (Satan) until the following prayer.
