Is Masturbation Haram In Islam ?
In Islam, the topic of masturbation is a subject of debate among scholars. There are varying opinions regarding its permissibility. Some scholars argue that masturbation is prohibited (haram) based on interpretations of certain Islamic teachings, while others take a more lenient stance.
Those who consider it prohibited often base their opinion on a hadith (a saying of the Prophet Muhammad) that mentions the importance of preserving one’s chastity and avoiding any sexual gratification outside the bounds of marriage. They argue that masturbation falls under this category as it involves seeking sexual pleasure outside the context of a lawful marriage.
Is Masturbation Haram In Hadith ?
We were with the Prophet (ﷺ) while we were young and had no wealth. So Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty (i.e. his private parts from committing illegal sexual intercourse etc.), and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.”

On the other hand, some scholars argue that masturbation is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran, and therefore its prohibition cannot be firmly established. They believe that as long as it does not lead to any harmful consequences or interfere with one’s obligations and responsibilities, it may be considered permissible or at least discouraged but not outright prohibited.
It is important to note that personal beliefs and interpretations can vary among individuals and communities within the Islamic faith. If you have concerns about this matter, it is advisable to consult with a knowledgeable and trusted Islamic scholar who can provide guidance based on your specific circumstances and understanding of Islamic teachings.
